1.1 Introducing the fundraising timeline and process

Lesson Summary

  • Fundraising is a process with five distinct steps
  • Raising money takes more time than you think
  • Work backwards from when you need cash in the bank

  • The five steps of fundraising:
    • Prepare
    • Start
    • Execute
    • Sign
    • Close

  • A fundraise takes time. 12 months of runway might seem like a long time, but it is cutting it short
  • Download the fundraising timeline and project tracker

Download the Fundraising Timeline and Project Tracker (see download section)

How to use the tracker:

1. Set the start date of the fundraise in cell B2

2. Review the phases and tasks in column B and D, adapt them to your fundraise if necessary

3. Change the duration of each task in column F, as necessary

4. Now you have an overview of how long your fundraise will be and when you need to complete each task and phase

4. In the calendar view to the right you will get a visual overview of how the various tasks overlap

5. You can move forward in the calendar view to visualize where in the fundraising process you are

6. In column K you can update and keep track of the progress of each task

7. In column A you can check a task off once it is complete

Use the tracker as it is, or as a tool to calculate the length of each phase and as input for your own timeline and tracker
